KAMG activities and events

Full details of all KAMG group events can be seen on Tracker – please click here.

Below are just a few examples of the kind of rides and events we organise throughout the year. Typically, group rides and social events take place all year round, with training days/weekends and longer trip and tours happening from March to October. Our Group Night socials are at the Kentagon, Brands Hatch and take place on the last Thursday of the month.

Group rides

Group rides are split into groups of four, with an Observer either leading or tail-ending, the Associate member(s) riding number 2 and 3, swapping over at a halfway stop. This gives Associates the chance to be led by a Green Badge holder and witness the calibre of ride they should achieve to gain an Advanced rider pass. Please check back nearer the time of the rides for destination details. Members and Associates can sign up on Tracker.

Machine control days (MCDs) and pillion workshop

An ideal opportunity to practice and improve slow riding skills, emergency braking, counter-streering and other machine control skills in a safe environment with help and support from our experienced team of observers. Non-members, associates and full members are all welcome. The session is free to KAMG members, and we ask for a donation of £10 from non-members towards costs. Non-members, please email KAMG’s machine control day manager, David Austen, at mcd@kamg.org.uk

The pillion workshop comprises a theory and practice session followed by an on-road observed ride. Subjects covered include:  motorcycle dynamics, suspension set-up, braking techniques, rider and pillion communications, mounting and dismounting techniques and more.

These are usually held on Saturdays, unless otherwise stated. These training sessions take place in one of the large car parks of Ebbsfleet International, DA10 1EB. For non-members, the actual car park will be advised here nearer the time. KAMG members will also be able to check on Tracker.

KAMG to change charitable status to CIO

IAM Roadsmart have acknowledged KAMG’s request to form a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation) and remain affiliated to them. The proposed KAMG constitution is being considered by IAM Roadsmart lawyers and we will be considering any changes which may need to be made in order to get a round peg to fit into a square hole. We are pushing to get the process completed by the end of 2024, but are in the hands of IAM Roadsmart. In principal, IAM Roadsmart agree this is a sensible move and they want to work with us to get the model right. Once in place, it is envisaged that this will roll out to other IAM groups across the UK. The work of Nigel Clibbens and Matt Pounds has been intensive in shaping this idea, which Martin Ford first proposed a few years ago. It is very important to get this right and accepted to protect the future of the group and its trustees. We will keep the membership posted on progress.
