IAM RoadSmart Skills Days allow riders, using their own motorcycle, the chance to develop their skills with qualified instructors, using four iconic racing circuits as their classroom. The sessions are open to both IAM RoadSmart members and the general public, allowing attendees a rare chance to learn precision riding techniques on a racing circuit and to develop new skills that they can use when back on public roads.
Riders will work as part of a small group and will be given the opportunity to fully understand what their motorcycle is truly capable of, through a series of structured sessions. Each of these sessions will involve an initial pre-session technical and safety briefing; track time and post-track debriefing, before then moving onto the next session.

At BikeSafe skills days, professional police motorcyclists – who are all keen bikers – share the secrets of how to become a neater, smoother, safer and more confident motorcycle rider.
It doesn’t matter if you’re just starting off or if you’re a veteran rider, BikeSafe caters for everyone’s needs. Workshops include a theory class, followed by an observed ride. Topics covered include: collision causation (right turn violations), cornering/bend assessment, overtaking, filtering, group riding, attitude to risk, hazard management and the system of motorcycle control.
The aim of the day is simple: to help you enjoy safer biking even more. You’ll get advice that’ll make good sense to you at your stage and ability and advice on essential next steps. After your observed ride, you will receive a written report with recommendations for development.
BikeSafe days are sometimes subsidised (check on their website), but exceptional value even if not. Many KAMG members of all levels attend these days to keep up their training. They run from April through to October and include women-only days – click here for Met Police availability and click here for availability in Kent.
